Indian Railway provides reservation facilities both online and offline. Online reservation is provided by IRCTC and offline at the Railway reservation counters. Railways has its rules and regulation for its passengers. Train tickets can be Confirmed CNF or Waitlist WL  or Reservation Against Cancellation RAC. PNR or Passenger Name Record is a unique 10 digit number to check all your ticket details. You can get PNR status by SMS or by checking the official website. IRCTC now  gives true PNR prediction through which the likelihood of the ticket getting confirmed can be known.  Before boarding one must be aware of the railway rules for Waiting List Tickets. One can also check current booking facilities in case of instant reservation. Live train running status position is provided by National Train Enquiry System NTES. You can download the official app to get the required information. Alternatively you can also call 139 the official Enquiry number over phone to get the same. Train time table is also available on website / App  or you can purchase Train At a Glance TAG book for detailed info. Indian railway map or train route map is available on App and Website. Application format for change of name is available with the Incharge of the Reservation office. The procedure and rules for change in name is also available here.

 

Change of boarding point on a confirmed ticket is allowed. One can approach the Railway reservation counter. Even IRCTC provides boarding point change facility on E Tickets. 

 

Indian Railway also provides booking facilities to Foreign tourists. Foreign tourist quota is also available on selected important trains. Foreign tourist quota  or FT Quota rules are available on this page. 

 

Railways also have an auto upgradation rule to auto upgrade tickets to higher class without paying extra amount. It is also known as Alternative Train Accomodation Scheme  ATAS or Vikalp. 

 

If any one intends to travel for long distances with frequent breaks then they can opt for Circular Journey Tickets. The Circular Journey tickets can be Standard Circular Journey and Non Standard Circular Journey. Detailed rules for booking Circular Journey tickets are available here.
